Raleigh Missional Church - What is a Missional Church?

A missional church believes that Jesus has a mission and so does the church. That mission for the church is to "go out". You may have heard it as "be a light", be the "salt of the earth", or even go share GOOD NEWS (the gospel).

In a missional church Sunday is just the beginning. It prepares us as we "go out" the rest of the week to our neighborhoods, schools, jobs and everywhere else we might be. We have a purpose beyond living for 6 day and then returning to "do church" on the 7th. "Doing church" is what we do all week long as we build relationships, address needs, care for one another and share our love.

Often in missional churches, there will be "missional groups" that are designed for building small communities that have a particular mission. That mission might be to love on a particular neighborhood, be an active part of a certain charity or even sponsor a boys/girls home. Missional churches realize their main mission is OUTSIDE of the church walls and is willing to go where people need the church.

Another way to look at is is that a missional church is a church on mission instead of a church with a mission. A missional church will always be asking the question if what they are doing is helping them with their mission to be the kingdom to a world that desperately needs it.
